Four Tips For Staying Healthy This Summer

calendar Thursday, May 14

Interested in tips for staying healthy this summer? Summer can be a busy and active season. Add the heat of summer, especially here in the desert, to your busy schedule and you have a formula for not being in optimal health. When summer is at its peak and you are always on the go, it can be easy to forget the basic principles of caring for ourselves and our bodies. For that reason, it is important for you to do these four simple things to stay healthy.

Four Tips For Staying Healthy This Summer

1. Stay Hydrated

The first tip for staying healthy this summer is to stay hydrated. The risk of dehydration increases in the heat and the sun, especially when you or your family are involved in outdoor activities.

Drinking plenty of water, or consuming fruits and other foods containing water can reduce the risk of dehydration. Basically, dehydration leads to issues such as headaches, fatigue, confusion, dizziness, and more. Drinking an adequate amount of water each day can help prevent this.

2. Stay Active

Another way to stay healthy this summer is to do mild exercises such as a morning walk, jogging, or yoga. Physical activities and exercises help increase blood flow, promote “feel good” hormones, and keep you healthy overall.

3. Stay Rested

Sleep deprivation can have harmful effects, so staying rested is another one of our tips for staying healthy this summer. Experts suggest 7-10 hours of sleep each night for adults. Sleep gives your body and mind the rest that it needs and helps prepare you for starting your day in a healthy way.

4. Stay Safe

With COVID-19 (coronavirus) taking hold of the country this spring, we are now more than ever aware of the rapid spread of sickness in our communities and around the world. There are simple ways we can stay healthy and safe from the spread of viruses and other illnesses.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water, use hand sanitizer between washes
  • Stay 6 feet from others while in public and wear a mask if possible
  • Cover your cough or sneeze using your sleeve or elbow
  • Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Limit physical contact with those that are vulnerable to sicknesses such as the elderly or newborn children
  • If you have symptoms (fever, coughing, runny nose, difficulty breathing) stay home
